Fall 2006- Spring 2007 Year in Review

Prepared by Julie Goral, Historian

As the 2006-2007 school year comes to an end let us take a few minutes to reminisce about what a wonderful year it has been for the Lambda Theta Chapter.

Beginning with the days of warmth and sunshine, the summer crew had an awesome time together up at Michigan Tech.  Highlights included: Hancock beach fun, Mastering Physics frustration, and a day in the dark when all you could do was sit out on your lawn eating freeze pops before they melted due to the lack of electric power.

For our fall retreat we discussed how our sorority could be improved and set goals for the year.  Then we brushed up on some songs and serenaded the fraternities.

For DZ Week, we had a lot of fun rushes and came out with three lovely new members: Amy Berns, Rebecca Klank, & Tanya Lynn.

Homecoming week was filled with Michigan Tech and DZ spirit.  This year we helped Delt Sigs with constructing Blizzard T. Husky for our float.  The girls did a great job with the cardboard, duck tape, and paper mache.

For philanthropy events we helped Sig Pis out with their annual Haunted House by being tour guides.  The money from the event is donated to a local charity called Pigs in Heat.  Keeping with tradition in December we had our annual Christmas Party for underprivileged children with Sig Eps.  A new philanthropy event we helped out at this year was the Dial Help Mexican dinner.  The organizers of the dinner were very appreciative of or assistance with cutting vegetables and serving meals and requested we come back the following year.

Our Queens candidate, Brittany Gauthier, kicked off Winter Carnival with an Irish jig and placed Second Runner up.  Unfortunately the Winter Carnival spirits were frowning on us this year beginning with a lack of snow and then wickedly cold temperatures with gusty winds.  But that did not stop Delta Zeta from creating a wonderful Trojan horse statue that took second place.  Everyone pulled together during special events and we received a first place rating.  Finally our skit “Its All Greek to Me” got a well-deserved first with its beautiful choreography, wonderful sets, and hilarious entertainment.  All of these successes made Delta Zeta Sorority the 2007 Winter Carnival Champions!

In the spring the Lambda Theta chapter recruited a wonderful batch of six new members including: Samantha Hendricks, Elizabeth Hubsky, Yahna Kolomyjec, Megan Oldfield, Anna Uhl, Lindsay Wyatt.

Also in the spring Delta Zeta was presented with the award for the highest cumulative GPA of all the Greek Organizations at Michigan Tech.  This was a great accomplishment and Delta Zeta will continue to strive for the highest academic excellence.

Handcuff bowling was “Sororalicious” this year.  Delta Zeta showed up in full force with their flashy pink and green, short skirts, hair poofs, and metro dressed dates.  What a blast!

The summary of this year just goes to show Delta Zetas are the best sisters around and will forever be dear to each other’s hearts.

Congratulations to the graduating class of Spring 2007!

Maureen Fruge, Danielle McCabe, Mariya McCormick, Miranda Morris, Heidi Mulheron, Holly Safford, Rachel Sherzer

We wish them great success in their future endeavors.
