It's a time for potential New
Members to meet the sisters at organized parties/activities. It
gives the potential New Member a chance to explore what Delta Zeta has to offer
for her personally, as well as a chance for sisters to get to know each potential
New Member before
deciding to invite them to become part of the sisterhood.
An undergraduate woman enrolled full time with 12 credits or
more, with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA, and the desire to grow
in understanding and love as a sister.
No, the national sororities on MTU's campus wish to ensure that
each woman has a chance to adjust to college life before committing
herself to an organization. Freshmen are welcome to
come to recruitment events of Delta Zeta during their first semester but can not join until they establish a Fall GPA.
The
New Member period is generally 8 to 10 weeks long and requires
attendance at a weekly new member meeting (set at a time that all new
members have available). Other time requirements would include attending chapter activities
and study hours.
Individual academic performance is Delta Zeta's Number
1 priority. Many of our sisters study
together both during set study hours and on their own. We have an
academics chairman that
coordinates assistance for sisters needing academic help. Also, our
sorority is comprised of members representing a wide variety of majors, so
chances are other sisters can help you with a subject you're struggling with.
Even more, its helpful to register for the same classes as a sister with the
same major so you can be study buddies.
Once you become an initiated member of Delta Zeta, you are a
member for life. As a collegiate member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, you
share a bond of sisterhood member of over 165 chapters across the United States
and Canada. As an alumnae, you have the opportunity to become involved in one of 250
Delta Zeta alumnae chapters located across the United States, United
Kingdom and Canada.
Yes, 16 sisters live in the house each year. It’s a Delta Zeta requirement that all
sisters live in the house for a minimum of 1 year. Living in the house is a fun experience and
strengthens the bonds between sisters. Most sisters find living in the
sorority house to also be very convenient as that it is relatively close to
campus, all the chores are split up (from bathroom and kitchen cleaning to
shoveling), and they get to live with some of their best friends.
There is a
National New Member fee of $40, due
the 1st week of the New Member period.
There is a National Initiation fee of $80, due
the 4th week of the New Member period.
The Delta Zeta
Badge and Guard cost $101, due 4th week of the New Member period.
The Building Fund
is a one time donation of $100, due one year from
Initiation.
If circumstances arise where you must leave the New
Member program, your
money can be returned.
Dues: 8 months at $30/month.
This money is put into our chapter budget. It pays for activities, social,
and other sorority functions.
Furnishing Fund:
8 months at $6/month. This money is used to buy big things for the house
(furniture, new chairs for the dining room, etc.). Even
if you don't live at the house, you still own part of the house and are
encouraged to stop by, visit, and use things at the house.
Parlor Fee: 2 semesters at
$30/each - This money is used to maintain the house on a daily basis and is only
paid by people not living in the house. This is the out-of-house sisters
contribution toward the supplies and utilities they use throughout the year.
The in-house sisters already contribute to this fund through their rent.
Social Fee: 2 semesters at
$15/each - This money is used to fund social activities.
There will be misc.
optional costs throughout the academic year like t-shirts, Spring formal, etc. Most of these costs can be
managed by using your judgment on what you want to pay for and what you aren't
necessarily interested in.
The Lambda Theta chapter is committed to supporting Delta Zeta's
national philanthropy foundation, which supports national organizations
and local projects designated to help those with speech and hearing
disorders. Included are Gallaudet University, the House Ear Institute and the Better Hearing
Institute. The foundation also makes annual grants to Delta Zeta
alumnae chapters to assist with local service projects in hearing centers,
schools an d
clinics through their hearing help grants.
Refer to our
philanthropy page to see more of our chapter's involvement. The
chapter has numerous philanthropy projects, and is always looking for ways to
support the local community.
You have every chance in the world! Delta Zeta has many executive
board positions and many chairperson offices, as well as committees for
special activities. Delta Zeta also has a 100% chapter involvement
directive where we encourage our members to belong to at least one other
campus/community organization. We feel that by encouraging our members
to participate in other organizations and hold office in these
organizations, we are developing more well rounded members for Delta
Zeta and for the community.
